More about "Bugle Song"

"Bugle Song" explores one, two and three octave harmonic flexibility in a seven-bugle format

Octave Slurs – Chromatic Bugle Progressions

  • In order to play clean octave slurs, you must physically know how many harmonics to skip within the octave.  These exercises include all of the harmonics in one, two and three octaves. The harmonics are gradually eliminated so you can learn how far the octave span feels and plays throughout the registers.  Beginning with simple harmonic octave slurs, Bugle Song takes you step by step to a complete 13 harmonic glissando.

Expanding Harmonics

  • Continue with octave slurs in progressively challenging exercises using melodic presentation and rhythmic variation.

Harmonic Slurs

  • Expand range and harmonic slurs with ascending and descending patterns to promote flexibility.

High Harmonic Scales

  • Finish with high harmonic scales to represent the essence of Baroque trumpet playing using a single fingering for each exercise.
